CI plug and a Copper plug are safety devices mainly used in boilers and pressure vessels to prevent damage caused by overheating and excessive pressure. The working principle of both plugs is based on the concept of temperature sensitivity and material properties, but they function slightly differently depending on the application.This plug has a copper body with a core made of a low melting point alloy. On the other hand, a CI plug is typically used as a threaded plug or blanking plug in pipelines or boiler mountings to close openings and withstand high pressure. Cast iron is strong in compression and can tolerate high temperatures, but it does not melt at low temperatures like the fusible alloy in a copper plug.
Therefore, the CI plug does not act as a safety melting device; instead, it works by providing a rigid, pressure-tight seal that maintains system integrity under operating conditions.The copper plug works on the principle of melting at a predetermined high temperature to provide automatic safety against low water conditions, while the CI plug works on the principle of mechanical strength and pressure resistance to safely seal and support boiler components.
